I?ve found some helpful data in a blog post from Shane Walker in Rapid SEO Expert talking over the dos and don'ts in planning to switch a website name.

In this situation, an individual named Geegee has a certain site which is presently ranking on the first page of Google for her selected key phrases. However, she has one more domain name in line and she wants to make it as her primary domain name since she is intending to change her hosting company

Given the instances, she is a little confused regarding the risks she might encounter in the second she implements her plan. To get rid of her doubts, she posted her problem in a forum site notably at flyingsolo.com.au and requested the help of SEO experts.

Shane Walker noticed her post and pointed out that every single domain name is ranked independently and Google crawls at them in another way. In other words, if Geegee is boldy planning to list that internet site, she must begin from the bottom and work her way up.

In addition, the new domain will also seize all the site visitors from the previous one.

But if Geegee is only intending to switch the site over a new domain name, there is a probability that Geegee could be fined for redundant content since her former domain had been in the index list of Google.

Shane knows that exact match domain names carry some added benefits to a website. Nonetheless, provided that Geegee is already ranking for her prime search phrases, Shane thinks that there is no point of moving over domains as Geegee is already running the pace.
