The Best UFC Blogs Online

by Sharlene Fleming

Finding the best UFC blogs is not so easy. Since its inception in 1993 and its first event in Denver, Colorado (held under the intimidating tag-line: "There are no rules!") the Ultimate Fighting Championship has slowly emerged into the sporting mainstream, with the result that Mixed Martial Arts now boasts a huge international following. Unsurprisingly the opinionated, well informed fans of the sport love to spread their views and analysis online.

The Bloody Elbow is one of the most comprehensive fan sites you'll find for MMA or Ultimate Fighting. It's got lots of the opinion you'd expect but also has a really in-depth news element and lots of information about the history and development. Particularly worth a click is the 50 best fights in history which offers complete footage of all the bouts. It's a good place either to learn more about the sport if you are a beginner or engage your passion if you are an aficionado.

Those in search of a slightly saltier view might check out the Cage Potato, a rough and ready fan site for all things MMA. As well as news, views and videos, expect photos of scantily clad ring girls, the occasional four letter rant and a tongue in cheek vibe. That is not to say, however, that this site doesn't have serious analytical chops.

Those seeking a no-frills approach to Ultimate Fighting reporting should wing their way over Fight Opinion. This is a text heavy site which deliberately plays down the hyperbole surrounding MMA and concentrates on analysis, analysis and more analysis. The writers are as good as you will find anywhere, all boasting seriously impressive technical knowledge. If you want a flimflam free, smartly written blog, then this is for you.

One of the most famous Ultimate Fighting sites is MMA Junkie. It's a well-established brand - it won the Best Media Coverage Award at the World Mixed Martial Arts Awards in 2008 - and is in many ways the template a lot of the newer sites follow. There is lots of video footage, lots of news coming in thick and fast and plenty of wallop in the visual set-up. They've also got their own radio show which can be downloaded from the site.

Punch, Kick, Choke is a site which appeals mainly to those with some prior understanding of the sport. As well as MMA, it also deals with Jiu-Jitsu and is mainly aimed at those who know a bit about it already. It's not particularly pretty in terms of its visual set up but if you are into technique it is a strong site.

Probably the best fighter ranking you-ll find online is at the Squabbles blog. Elsewhere it offers news and views, much like the sites we mentioned above. Really it is the rankings which make it so highly recommended.

With so many sites offering MMA news it is hard to know where to start. These six UFC blogs will set you on your way. No matter whether you're casual fan or a cage worn fanatic, there will be something out there for you.
